Getting Started with Flipgrid
What is Flipgrid? According to its website, Flipgrid is a “a simple free, and accessible video discussion experience”. The short story is that you as the educator provide a prompt that the students will respond to using a video. There is a bit more to it than that, but at its core, that’s what it does.
You can explore all the various options available by creating an account. Here’s how to get started. Scroll to the bottom for a video walkthrough!
In the upper right hand corner, click on “Educator Signup”
On this page, you are asked to either sign up using your Google or Microsoft accounts. I’m going to use my school Google account.
I’ll be brought to my Google account chooser, select the correct one, and then I’ll see this screen.
Next, you’ll be asked to provide some additional information. Once you have provided this information, click “Let’s go”.
You’ll see some quick tutorial screens. Click “Create a Topic”
Click “Get Started”
On the topic creation page, you’ll want to put in some information and instructions, and adjust some settings.
Enter the Title
Enter the Prompt
Set permissions so only students using a school email address can submit a response.
Enable moderation, and set the maximum recording time.
Optionally, you can add media which can include your own video, a giphy, an emoji or other choices.
Once you have finished this, click “Create Topic” at the bottom.
Your topic is ready! Click copy and paste the link wherever. Or, if you use one of the tools below, including Google Classroom a website, Microsoft Teams, Remind, or Twitter, you can easily share this topic via one of those services.
